Kindergarten & School Readiness Program
Providing a safe & nurturing environment for children in Kindergarten with with emotional or behavioral challenges to succeed in their regular school environment. . A referral is required for enrollment.
The primary goal of the Kindergarten & School Readiness Program is to increase emotional regulation skills and academic school readiness in order to enable children in Kindergarten to learn successfully in their regular school setting. The staff at Wesley Kindergarten provide the students with the support needed to progress through a standards aligned Kindergarten curriculum, teach students the skills necessary to demonstrate and maintain appropriate social behavior, and assist students in acclimating to a school setting.
Who We Serve
The school is a very small, structured environment where children receive ample individualized attention and intervention. With the option for outpatient therapy at the site, students can receive their mental health individual and group therapy in the same location as their school. Students also receive a full neuropsychological evaluation. The recommendations may lead to additional referrals for supports and services in the home or community, as well as interventions that school staff can implement.
What We Offer
Students begin the day with a community meeting, which is a time to recognize how they are feeling and set a goal for the day. Students have blocks of time dedicated to reading and math, alternating social studies and science, with all core content aligned to the state standards. Additionally, students receive elective classes, for example, music therapy. Social Emotional Learning, Adventure Based Counseling, Relaxation in the Sensory Room, and Group Therapy are also integrated into the day.
The team, including parents, Kindergarten staff, and the school district representative, meets quarterly to discuss public school readiness. The reintegration plan is developed by the team based on the individual needs of the child and the supports and services available at the home district. Typically, reintegration starts off slow, with only one or two classes at the home school, so that the child can continue to receive the support of Wesley staff through the process.
